Markbronn is a suburb of the municipality Blaustein in the east of Baden-Württemberg near Ulm .

history

It is believed that Markbronn got its name from one of the numerous springs that rise from the ground around Markbronn. The settlement, which probably emerged in Christian times, was probably named after a spring that was consecrated to St. Mark ("Marcus" + "Brunnen" → "Markbronn").

Markbronn was mentioned in a document for the first time in 1304 in a trial protocol that was kept before the episcopal official in Constance .

The parties were the Söflingen Poor Clare monastery as patronage of the Harthausen parish and Count Egeno von Schelklingen , pastor of the Martinskirche in Erbach . It was about owning the tithe income in Einsingen . This had come to Harthausen as a branch in the 12th century, but the Erbach parish may have had older rights there. Among the witnesses from the Söflingen monastery was a Benzo dictus Blanc de Marcbrunnen .

With this proof of name the reliable knowledge of the place Markbronn begins.

Before the mediatization at the beginning of the 19th century, the Blaubeuren monastery exercised state sovereignty and high court in Markbronn, while the manor and lower jurisdiction were exercised by various landlords. From the 19th century, the place was subordinate to the Württemberg Oberamt Blaubeuren and in 1938 came to the district of Ulm .

In the course of the community reform on October 1, 1974, the communities Bermaringen and Wippingen with the district Lautern were incorporated into the community Blaustein . Arnegg , which had already merged with Markbronn-Dietingen on July 1, 1971, and Herrlingen with Weidach joined the new municipality of Blaustein on January 1, 1975.

Buildings

Link organ in the Markuskirche

In the middle of the village is the Markuskirche, the first walls of which were built between 1200 and 1400. Below the church wall is the "Wette", a collecting basin for spring water that rises just above the St. Mark's Church. When the Swabian Alb did not have a comprehensive water supply through pipes, the villagers knew how to help themselves by creating large basins or ponds in which spring and rain water collected, which is used for washing, bathing, cooking and above all for extinguishing fire could.

The former schoolhouse, which used to house the school (closed around 1964), town hall and volunteer fire brigade , has been renovated inside and now contains the fire station and a village museum. The other former offices are used by the local associations.

The village museum, which came into being on the occasion of Markbronn's 700th anniversary (2004), focuses on the history of Markbronn. The large number of historical photographs is particularly impressive and conveys life in Markbronn over the past 150 years.

Regular events

The Backhaus Festival, which is well-known beyond the borders of Ulm and which sometimes attracted over 3,000 guests, is the largest event that Markbronn has to offer every year.

In the foreground is the bakery (previously common in the country) in which the villagers still bake bread and other regional baking specialties today.
