Marko Albert (born June 25, 1979 in Tallinn ) is a triathlete from Estonia . He is a two-time Olympic athlete (2004, 2008) and an Ironman winner (2014).

Career

Marko Albert was active as a swimmer and he switched to triathlon in 1997.

In August 2000 he started at the Student World Championship and finished 13th in Hungary. At the 2002 Triathlon World Cup, he finished tenth in the U23 category in Mexico on the Olympic distance.

Military Vice World Champion 2003

In 2003 he started in the elite class and in June finished eleventh at the European championship on the short distance triathlon (1.5 km swimming, 40 km cycling and 10 km running). In July he became military vice world champion and he was able to repeat this success again in 2005.

He started at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens and finished 21st. He has been married to his wife Kai since 2006. In 2008 he started a second time at the Summer Olympics and was the only Estonian in Beijing to come in 41st.

National champion duathlon 2013

In 2013 he became national duathlon champion on the short distance.

He has been active in the long distance since 2014 and in March he won the Ironman New Zealand (3.8 km swimming, 180 km cycling and 42.2 km running). At the Ironman Hawaii (Ironman World Championships) he finished 25th in October 2017.

In July 2018, the 39-year-old finished third at the World Championships on the ITU long distance in Denmark. Marko Albert is trained by Jüri Käen
