Marlboro Township is a township in Monmouth County in the US state of New Jersey . It has 40,191 inhabitants (as of 2010) and an area of 79.2 km² .
history
The Marlboro region was settled by settlers from Scotland , England and the Netherlands from 1685 . The Marlboro Township was formed on February 17, 1848 from parts of the neighboring Freehold Township . The name was initially "Marlborough", but later the spelling was changed to "Marlboro". The township was originally sparsely populated and mainly characterized by agriculture . Only after the end of the Second World War was there a comprehensive expansion of the infrastructure in the region, as a result of which the Marlboro Township recorded a strong increase in population. From the 1970s, families from nearby New York City also came to Marlboro. Between 1930 and 1980, the population in Marlboro Township had increased about tenfold.
