A local judge then ordered the deserters to be released immediately and arrested two army sergeants for kidnapping. As a result, 250 soldiers were summoned from Indianapolis under the command of Colonel Henry B. Carrington . The courthouse was occupied, the sergeants released and those responsible arrested.
Marshall was home to the Handy Writers' Colony , founded in 1950 , which included bestselling author James Jones . He built a house in Marshall and lived here from 1952 to 1957.
