Martin Brandenburg (born May 8, 1870 in Posen , † February 19, 1919 in Stuttgart ) was a German painter , draftsman and graphic artist of impressionism and symbolism . He is best known for his fantastic paintings and fairytale landscapes.

From 1889 to 1892 he studied at the academy in Berlin, 1894–1895 in Paris. He first became famous in 1895 through an exhibition in Fritz Gurlitt's salon in Berlin.

Brandenburg was a member of the Association of the XI from 1897 and of the Berlin Secession after 1898 and was a close friend of Hans Baluschek . From 1908 to 1918 he taught painting and sculpture in the Berlin study studios (the so-called Lewin-Funcke School), where he was among other things the teacher of the textile designer Anni Albers and the painter Irma Stern .

His works have been compared with those of Max Beckmann . Martin Brandenburg was a member of the German Association of Artists . At the first joint exhibition between the Munich Secessionists and the DKB in 1904, he exhibited the oil painting Waldesschauer .

Starting in 1906, on behalf of the Cologne chocolate producer Ludwig Stollwerck, he supplied designs for Stollwerck collector's pictures , including the Stollwerck collector 's albums no. 9 and 10. His painting Walk was shown in 1914 at the Great Berlin Art Exhibition .
