Martin Brick (born March 18, 1939 in Demmin ) is a German veterinarian and politician ( CDU ).

Life and work

After graduating from the Extended High School in Stralsund , Brick first worked in horticulture. In 1959 he began studying veterinary medicine in Leipzig , which he finished in 1964 with the state examination. He then worked as a veterinarian. From 1980 to 1982 he completed a postgraduate course in Berlin , was then licensed as a specialist veterinarian and was head of a group practice in Woldegk until 1990 . He later got involved in farmers' associations. From 2000 to 2007 he was President of the German Fisheries Association . Brick is divorced and has a son (* 1978).

Political party

Brick was already involved in politics in the GDR and joined the Eastern CDU . After the political change he remained a member of the CDU. From 1993 to 2001 he was a member of the state board of the CDU Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania .

MP

Brick was a member of the district council from 1971 to 1978. From 1990 to 2006 he was a member of the state parliament of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania , where he was deputy chairman of the agriculture committee from 1998 to 2002. He was also elected to the Barnin Municipality Council and Parchim County Council.

Public offices

Brick acted from June to October 1990 as government representative for the district of Neubrandenburg . In addition, from August to October 1990 he was state spokesman and state representative in Neubrandenburg and Schwerin .

After the re-establishment of the state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Brick was appointed Minister for Food, Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries to the state government led by Prime Minister Alfred Gomolka on October 27, 1990 . He was also a member of the follow-up government led by Prime Minister Berndt Seite and, after Petra Uhlmann's resignation, took over the provisional management of the Ministry of the Environment from March 31 to April 19, 1993. With the end of the first electoral term, his ministry was named State Ministry for Agriculture and Nature Conservation on December 9, 1994. After the CDU's defeat in the 1998 state elections and the formation of a coalition of the SPD and PDS , he left the government on November 3, 1998.

From 2000 to 2007 he was federal chairman of the German Fisheries Association .
