Martin Flashar

Martin Flashar (born December 16, 1959 in Oberstdorf ) is a German classical archaeologist .

Martin Flashar, son of the classical philologist Hellmut Flashar , started studying classical archeology, Latin studies , philosophy and education at the University of Bochum , the University of Heidelberg and the University of Bonn after graduating from high school in 1978 . He was born in 1991 with Nikolaus Himmelmann in Bonn with a dissertation on the subject of Apollon Kitharodos. Doctorate of statuary types of the musical Apollo . In 1992/93 he received a grant from the Fritz Thyssen Foundation , and in 1993/94 he led a prehistoric excavation in Dortmund . Between 1994 and 1996 he was a post-graduate fellow at the University of Freiburg , and from 1996 to 2000 he was a research assistant at the University of Freiburg at the Collaborative Research Center 541 of the German Research Foundation Identities and Alterities . In 2002 Flashar became a research assistant at the university in the project F-MoLL / Mobility in Archaeological Teaching . In 2003 he completed his habilitation at the University of Freiburg and was appointed private lecturer . Between 2002 and 2005 Flashar was the foundation curator of the archaeological collection of the University of Freiburg. In 2005 he was awarded the Baden-Württemberg State Teaching Prize . A teaching position took him to the University of Innsbruck in 2007 , from 2008 to 2009 he was a research assistant at the Collaborative Research Center 586 Difference and Integration of the DFG ( University of Leipzig ), in 2009 he had a teaching position at the Evangelical University of Freiburg . In 2013 he was appointed adjunct professor at the University of Freiburg.

Flashar's research focuses on ancient sculpture, iconography and iconology, as well as the interpretation of mythical images, the modern reception of ancient visual themes, museology and the representation of archeology in public space. Flashar also works as a freelance journalist and publishes mainly in daily newspapers ( Süddeutsche Zeitung , Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung , Neue Zürcher Zeitung , Badische Zeitung ).

Flashar has been the spokesman for the citizens' initiative Pro Culture Capital Freiburg since 2011 . Flashar has been a research assistant at the Institute of Fine Arts at the Freiburg University of Education since 2017.
