Martin AR Meyer-Pyritz (born November 6, 1870 in Pyritz ; † August 11, 1942 in Berlin ; born Martin Meyer ) was a German sculptor .
Life
Martin Meyer was the younger brother of the sculptor Georg Renatus Meyer, who initially called himself Georg Meyer-Pyritz, later Georg Meyer-Steglitz . He was especially valued for his animal sculptures.
Martin Meyer from Pyritz studied from 1892 to 1896 at the Academy of Arts in Berlin with Peter Breuer and Ernst Herter . From 1899 he worked in a studio at the academy. He exhibited at the Great Berlin Art Exhibition and also in the Munich Glass Palace . Because of his successful animal sculptures he became known as 'Tiermeyer'. Around 1935 Meyer-Pritz had his workshop in the studio house of the sculptor Johannes Röttger in Berlin-Wilmersdorf on Sächsische Straße 32.
He was a member of the German Association of Artists .
Martin AR Meyer-Pyritz died in Berlin in 1942 at the age of 71. His grave in the cemetery of the Bethlehem parish in Berlin-Kreuzberg has not been preserved and was probably destroyed during the Second World War. After his small grave slab was found again, the cemetery administration created a memorial for Meyer-Pyritz in the form of a tomb, in which she found a new place. The wife and son of Martin Meyer-Pyritz rest in the cemetery of the nameless .
