Wolfgang Kirchbach (born September 18, 1857 in London , † September 8, 1906 in Bad Nauheim ) was a German writer , illustrator and journalist .

Life

Wolfgang Kirchbach was born as the son of the history painter Ernst Kirchbach and his wife Emma. Schmitthenner-Stockhausen was born. He spent his early childhood in London with the older sons of Ferdinand Freiligrath and Karl Blind , who were banned from Germany because of their political views. The family later moved to Dresden .

After studying philology and history at the University of Leipzig , he moved to Munich in 1879 , where he joined the circle of Michael Georg Conrad . In 1882 he made a trip to Italy . In 1888 he went back to Dresden as an editor and theater critic, where he a. a. edited the magazine for national and international literature and the Dresdner Nachrichten . In 1896 he moved to Berlin, worked for the Vossische Zeitung and other newspapers and was involved in the Wandervogel and popular education movement . He was a co-founder of the Giordano Bruno Federation, which set itself apart from materialism and represented a unified, “idealistic” worldview in which science, philosophy and art were to be merged.

Kirchbach's cycle of novellas Children of the Reich (1883) was classified in the Reichstag as "dangerous to the public" and earned him the reputation of a naturalist . He is assigned to the Friedrichshagener poet circle and also wrote about Berlin and its surroundings. His second wife, Marie Luise Becker , whom he married in 1904, was also a writer.

His grave is in the Lichterfelde cemetery in Berlin , his estate in the Saxon State Library in Dresden.
