Martin Retov (born May 5, 1980 in Rødovre ) is a Danish football player .

Career

Beginnings in Køge

The offensive player Retov, who was born in the municipality of Rødovre, which belongs to the Hovedstaden region, began his football career in the youth teams of Rishøj IF, through which he got into the youth department of Køge BK . In 1999 Retov moved up to the adult division of the Danish second division team and came to his first appearances in the professional division. For Køge Retov completed 88 appearances in the second Danish league, which he also had a significant share in the rise of Køge in the first-class Super League after the 2001/02 season.

Due to his performance in the second division, Retov had recommended himself in 2001 for three appearances in the dress of the Danish U-21 team , in which he was substituted on. After only one use in Denmark's top division in the 2002/03 season , Retov came due to an injury to no further use for Køge. Instead, he was committed in late summer 2002 by the reigning Danish champions Brøndby IF , so that he ran up despite the immediate relegation Køges during the season in Denmark's top division in the following years.

Retov at Brøndby

With Brøndby Retov finished in his first two seasons 2002/03 and 2003/04 in each case the second place in the final table and could recommend himself through his performance for his debut in the national team of Denmark , which he denied on April 28, 2004 against Scotland . In the Danish Cup, Retov played with Brøndby initially with more success than in the league, so that he could win the title with the yellow-blue 2002/03 and again in 2004/05. In the 2004/05 season Retov reached the national championship with Brøndby at the same time and thus the double of championship and cup titles.

In the following season 2005/06 Brøndby again only reached the runner-up championship, a year later the club even finished the 2006/07 season in sixth place in the table, so that for the first time in several years the qualification for an international competition was missed. In the Royal League 2006/07, however, Retov won with Brøndby in the all-Danish final against FC Copenhagen .

The 2007/08 season was then again to Brøndby's disadvantage, so that the club finally finished eighth in the final table. At the same time Brøndby reached the cup winners 2007/08 - Retov scored the 3-2 winner in the 85th minute - the qualification for the UEFA Cup . On May 29 and June 1, 2008 Retov also completed his second and third appearance in the dress of the national team against the Netherlands and Poland respectively .

Change abroad

For the 2008/09 season Retov initially moved to the 2nd Bundesliga with a contract term until 2011 for the German Bundesliga relegated FC Hansa Rostock . Rostock paid a fixed transfer fee, which, according to media reports, was around one million euros, of which 850,000 euros were borne by the entrepreneur Carsten Maschmeyer , who later reclaimed this money in court.

After Kim Madsen , David Rasmussen and Thomas Rasmussen , Retov is the fourth Dane to move to the Baltic Sea city in the history of FC Hansa. After his debut in the DFB-Pokal 2008/09 on August 8th and in the 2nd Bundesliga on August 18th Retov completed his fourth friendly match against Spain on August 20th for the national team of Denmark, before he played against Hungary also ran up in qualifying for the 2010 World Cup .

In mid-October 2008, Retov took over the position of team captain at FC Hansa after Gledson had previously held this post for only a few months. However, Hansa threatened to miss the initially targeted promotion early on, which is why coach Frank Pagelsdorf was replaced by Dieter Eilts , under whom Rostock was even in danger of relegation and was only able to keep the class as a result of the renewed change of coach to Andreas Zachhuber , for which Retov with two goals in Contributed 31 missions. In the following season 2009/10 Retov only came to 24 appearances for the Hanseatic League due to a suspension of seven games at the end of the season, which he had received after an assault in the game against St. Pauli , which led to relegation to the 3. League could no longer prevent. Retov's contract in Rostock thus lost its validity.

Retov was not nominated for the 2010 World Cup.

Retov has been back in Denmark since the 2010/11 season, at AC Horsens , with whom he was relegated from the first division in 2013.
