Martin Segitz (born July 26, 1853 in Fürth ; † July 31, 1927 there ) was a German trade union leader and politician ( SPD ).
Life
Segitz was a trained tin caster. From 1890 to 1894 he was editor of the Franconian Daily Mail , from 1894 (first full-time) worker secretary of the social democracy in Nuremberg. After the assassination of the first Prime Minister of the Free State of Bavaria , Kurt Eisner , Segitz was proclaimed as his successor by the Council Congress on March 1, but the Landtag did not recognize him and on March 17 elected Johannes Hoffmann (also SPD) as an advocate of a pluralistic parliamentary democracy to the Prime Minister of Bavaria . In 1931 a street in the Carl Legien residential area in Berlin-Prenzlauer Berg , which was newly built by the trade unions, was given its name, but was renamed by the National Socialists in 1933 after the " seizure of power " . In 1947 the Segitzdamm was named after him in the “trade union quarter ” of Berlin-Kreuzberg . In 2005, the State Vocational School III in Fürth was renamed the Martin Segitz School after him.
