Martina Schweinsburg (born December 22, 1958 in Gera ) is a German politician ( CDU ) and since 1994 district administrator of the district of Greiz .

Life

Schweinsburg attended the Polytechnische Oberschule in Gera and completed an apprenticeship as zoo animal keeper at the Leipzig Zoo , before she graduated as a veterinary engineer from 1983 at the engineering school for veterinary medicine in Beichlingen . In 1990 she joined the CDU and became the first freely elected district administrator in the Zeulenroda district ( Thuringia ). In 1994 she became district administrator of the newly formed district of Greiz . From 1998 to 2000 Schweinsburg was a member of the regional executive committee of the CDU Thuringia . In 2000, 2006, 2012 and 2018 she was re-elected as district administrator for the district of Greiz. She is thus the longest-serving district administrator in the Free State of Thuringia. Martina Schweinsburg has been chairwoman of the CDU in the Greiz district since May 2010 and has three young deputies there.

Martina Schweinsburg has been President of the Thuringian District Association since July 2012 . In this function she repeatedly criticized the state government and its plans for a district reform in Thuringia. For example, she compared the report of an expert commission on administrative reform with the behavior of European colonial powers : “The colonial powers did something similar after the First World War in North Africa and the Middle East because they were of the opinion that the locals are too stupid to do that to be able to do it yourself. And we still have the conflicts from that time today. "

Position on the AfD

In the government crisis in Thuringia 2020 , Schweinsburg said that it was "completely illusory to ignore over 20 percent of the population". She added: "The AfD, which has also been represented in the Greiz district council since 2019, the current 'dirty kid', has decided to work together objectively and pragmatically." Schweinsburg spoke out in favor of what they believed to be a "sensible cooperation between the respective people [...] and not the parties", and explicitly included AfD members. In doing so, she and other CDU members joined an appeal for talks with the AfD, against which there was great criticism.

Positions during the COVID-19 pandemic

At the beginning of April 2020, Schweinsburg demanded a plan from the Thuringian state government for a return to normality in the economy and society after the Corona crisis.

Since there were high numbers of cases in the COVID-19 pandemic in Thuringia in the district of Greiz, a test was carried out on almost 1,000 people in Greiz and Ronneburg on behalf of the State of Thuringia at the beginning of May 2020. In fact, 855 tests were performed. Schweinsburg sharply criticized these tests; she said she had absolutely no understanding of the night-and-fog raid. She turned against a quarantine of the entire county.

In the course of the COVID-19 pandemic , the prime ministers of the federal states agreed with Chancellor Merkel on May 6, 2020 to initiate an emergency plan in the event that more than 50 new infections occur in 100,000 residents within 7 days. The district of Greiz developed into a hotspot during the pandemic and on May 7, 2020, with around 85 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, had a value that was above the agreed mark; it was the most affected group in Germany at the time. Schweinsburg opposed further tightening of the existing regulations for her circle and spoke out in favor of loosening them. She explained: "On the one hand, it is important to prevent the virus from spreading further; on the other hand, we cannot impose any further blockades on our economy or our gastronomy."
