Thomas Fügmann (born July 16, 1954 ) is a German politician ( CDU ) and since 2012 district administrator of the Saale-Orla district .

Life

From 1972 to 1976 Thomas Fügmann studied at the Friedrich Schiller University in Jena , graduating as a graduate teacher for mathematics and physics. In 1990 he joined the CDU . In May 1990 he became a member of the district council of the Saale-Orla district. On January 29, 2012, Thomas Fügmann prevailed in a runoff election against his predecessor Frank Roßner ( SPD ) and thus became district administrator of the Saale-Orla district. He was re-elected in the district election on January 14, 2018.

Thomas Fügmann is married and has two children.

Fügmann received national media attention in April 2020 when he attended a trombone concert in Germany during the coronavirus pandemic . Fügmann later announced via press release that he had "as a representative of the pandemic staff of the Saale-Orla district office" controlled the event. According to the police, however, the civilian Fügmann, who was present without personal protective equipment, was present as a visitor. According to the district office of Saale-Orla-Kreis, there was "no special permit from the regional administrative office" for the concert . The public prosecutor's office in Gera initiated an investigation against Fügmann. Fügmann had previously warned the population to "adhere to the guidelines and commandments" and demand a curfew in view of the contact restrictions.
