Mary Ann Mobley (born February 17, 1937 in Biloxi , Mississippi - † December 9, 2014 in Beverly Hills , California ) was an American actress and Miss America from 1959.

Life

Mary Ann Mobley graduated from the University of Mississippi . After she was elected Miss Mississippi , she won the 1959 Miss America beauty pageant in 1959. She was the first Mississippi contestant to receive the title. Then she started an acting career. For her first leading role, the portrayal of Teresa "Terry" Taylor in the 1964 film comedy Get Yourself a College Girl , directed by Sidney Miller , she was named Best Young Actress at the 1965 Golden Globe Awards together with Mia Farrow and Celia Kaye . She was later cast as Batgirl for the television series Batman , but was replaced by Yvonne Craig before filming began . Also as an original member of the television series The Girl from UNCLE , she was replaced after one episode; this time by Stefanie Powers .

Mobley married actor Gary Collins in 1967 . With him she hosted the Miss America beauty pageant in 1989. Both had a child together. They had been separated since 2011 but were married until Collins' death in October 2012. Mobley died in Beverly Hills in December 2014 at the age of 77.
