Marzena Diakun (* 1981 in Koszalin ) is a Polish conductor.

Life

Diakun began her music studies at the Grażyna Bacewicz Music School in Koszalin. In 2005 she graduated with honors as a conductor at the Karol Lipiński Music Academy in Wroclaw with Professor Mieczysław Gawroński.

She made her debut as a conductor in her second year of study: she conducted the final concert of the 17th International Drum Music Festival with the Koszalin Philharmonic. The following year she became an assistant to Jerzy Maksymiuk , the chief conductor of this philharmonic orchestra. In 2006 she continued her studies at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna with Uroš Lajovic .

In 2006 Marzena Diakun became Andrey Boreyko's assistant at the Bern Symphony Orchestra . She has performed as a conductor in Germany , Switzerland , Denmark and China .

As a guest conductor, she has appeared with many symphony orchestras, including a. with the Czech Radio Orchestra, Orquestra National de Lyon, Orquestra Sinfônica do Estado de São Paulo, Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra and Jena Philharmonic .

She also studied with Gabriel Chmura , Kurt Masur , Colin Metters , Howard Griffiths , David Zinman and Pierre Boulez .

In 2010 she received her doctorate from the Krakow Music Academy under the supervision of Tomasz Bugaj. Since 2011 she has been teaching at the Wroclaw Music Academy as an adjunct at the chair for symphony and opera conducting.

Marzena Diakun led the Orchester Philharmonique de Radio France from September 2015 to 2017 as assistant to the chief conductor Mikko Franck . Her appearances were broadcast by French radio and medici.tv.

In 2012 she was the first Polish woman to receive the 2nd prize at the International Grzegorz Fitelberg Conducting Competition in Katowice. She also received the 2nd prize in the 59th “ Prague Spring ” competition in 2007.

From 2009 to 2012 she directed the Spanish music ensemble for contemporary music “Smash Ensemble”, which presented many world premieres of works by Spanish composers in Spain, Portugal, Germany and Lithuania.

In 2015 she received a scholarship from the Boston Symphony Orchestra during the Tanglewood Music Festival .
