Mateus Feliciano Augusto Tomás

Mateus Feliciano Augusto Tomás (born February 23, 1958 in Chinguar , Bié Province , Angola , † October 30, 2010 in Chongorói , Benguela Province ) was an Angolan clergyman and Roman Catholic bishop of Namibe .

Life

Mateus Feliciano (Augusto) Tomás studied philosophy and Catholic theology in the seminary of Huambo . On September 18, 1983 he received in the Church of Nossa Senhora da Conceição , the ordination . He initially worked as a pastor , from 1984 vice rector and from 1986 dean of the São João Evangelista seminary . From 1991 to 1993 he completed a degree in moral theology at the Accademia Alfonsiana . In addition to a pastorate in the diocese of Viterbo , he completed a doctorate in moral theology in 1996 . In 1997 he returned to Angola and held various positions in the diocesan curia.

Pope Benedict XVI appointed him on March 21, 2009 as the first bishop of the diocese of Namibe, established on the same date . He was ordained bishop on June 21, 2009 by the Apostolic Nuncio in Angola, Archbishop Giovanni Angelo Becciu , in the Cathedral of Huambo; Co- consecrators were the Archbishop of Huambo , José de Queirós Alves , and the Bishop of Cabinda , Filomeno do Nascimento Vieira Dias . On July 5, 2009, he took over the management of his diocese.

Mateus Feliciano Tomás died on October 30, 2010 on his way back from the General Assembly of the Bishops' Conference of Angola and São Tomé and Príncipe as a result of a car accident after his car collided with a herd of animals.
