Mathias Kellner (born September 19, 1984 in Straubing ) is a German musician from Lower Bavaria . He is a composer and lyricist and plays various instruments.

Career

He received guitar lessons at the age of nine. Soon he played in various bands and often took on the role of singer.

After completing secondary school, he learned to be a carpenter . However, he never did this because he was fired immediately after completing his apprenticeship. Kellner got by with various jobs, including as a guitar teacher, and began performing regularly. Soon he had gathered a small fan base around him.

In 2007 he played in the opening act for Claudia Koreck , which introduced him to a larger audience. A Germany tour with Katie Melua followed a year later. During this time, Mathias Kellner also worked on his debut album This Ocean Life . The name is based on the Counting Crows album This Desert Life , of which he is a big fan. His first single from this album, Bees in my Head , achieved a respectable success in southern Germany.

The second album Hey Dude was released in 2010 and contained the hit single iSong , with which Kellner became known beyond the borders of Bavaria. Kellner's musicians can also be seen for the first time in the video for the song. Florian Sprenger, Johannes Molz and Andreas Schechinger have accompanied the singer live and during album productions ever since.

A year later the album The Road Sessions followed , which included two successful singles with The Glow and Baptistina . Radio host Matthias Matuschik participated in the video for Baptistina by appearing as a waiter .

Mathias Kellner made his actor debut in March 2012 in the Bavarian comedy Was weg is, is weg by director Christian Lerch , for which he also wrote the film music together with Jakob Ilja . Kellner also worked on the soundtracks for Friendship! , Summer in orange , Zettl and steam noodle blues with.

In January 2014 Mathias Kellner released his solo album Hädidadiwari . For the first time the album contains texts in Bavarian language. The track Maybe Maybe was released as a single and received quite a bit of radio airplay in southern Germany.

After a solo tour to the CD Hädidadiwari in spring 2014, Kellner played on August 2nd of that year at the Heimatsound Festival in the Passionstheater Oberammergau . He was supported by the drummer of his band, Andreas Schechinger, and the trumpeter Dominik Glöbl (Die Bayerischen Löwen). He also asked the moderator of the festival, Sebastian Horn ( Bananafishbones ), to perform a duet on stage. The performance was broadcast live on Bayerischer Rundfunk .

On April 29th, 2015 Kellner released his second solo CD Zeitmaschin ' , which he produced, recorded and mixed together with his long-time drummer Andreas Schechinger. The album is the first to be released on alpinrecords. It is a collaboration between Kellner's label Südpolrecords and Sony Music Entertainment . An animated video was also made for the first single from the long player Kloana Bua .

Kellner's third dialect album, Kettnkarussell , was released in autumn 2016 . The official release was preceded by the two singles Hauptsach and Kettnkarussell , which could only be heard and seen via video on YouTube . The Kettnkarussell-Tour 16/17 of the same name also started in autumn 2016 , during which Kellner had the singer-songwriter Otto Schellinger with him for the first time both as support and as an accompanying musician.

With his English-speaking band, now called The Kellner Band , he released the EP The Basement Tape in spring 2017 , which contains six new songs. The band acted as a trio on a tour that started in autumn 2017.

In April 2018, Mathias Kellner took over the role of the retired Wolfgang Ambros in the new edition of the musical Der Watzmann calls from Wolfgang Ambros , Joesi Prokopetz and Manfred diving . The play was successfully performed for two weeks at the Deutsches Theater in Munich .

In October 2018 Kellner released the album Tanzcafé Memory , which he sees as the continuation of his second album Zeitmaschin ' . The texts deal with growing up in the Bavarian province. Tanzcafé Memory was recorded, produced and mixed by him. In addition, on the tour for the CD, Kellner began to add cabaret pieces to his live show for the first time.

A year after the resumption of Der Watzmann ruft , Kellner was again the narrator and singer in the musical. It was, however, a completely new production of the piece, for which director Sven Kemmler and author Ecco Meineke were responsible. Mathias Kellner was the only actor in the cast from the previous year.

In August 2019, waiter could be seen playing a small role in the Eberhof thriller Leberkäsjunkie as a hot dog seller.

A year after the beginning of his Tanzcafé-Memory -Tour, Kellner published on his homepage that he will somehow bring his first music cabaret program to the stage.
