Mathilde Mallinger , actually Mathilde Lichtenegger , (born February 17, 1847 in Agram , † April 19, 1920 in Berlin ) was an Austrian opera singer ( soprano ) and singing teacher.

Life

Mallinger was a daughter of the composer Vatroslav Lichtenegger , from whom she also received her first musical lessons. With his support she became a student at the Prague Conservatory in 1863 . a. by Giovanni Battista Gordigiani (1795–1871) and Heinrich Vogl . Then she went to Vienna to study with Richard Lewy . It was through this that she made the acquaintance of Hofkapellmeister Dr. Franz Lachner .

This hired Mallinger to the court opera in Munich . From October 1, 1866 up to and including September 13, 1869 she was under contract there and was able to successfully debut there in the role of "Norma". She was also seen in some highly acclaimed world premieres : u. a. on June 21, 1869 as "Eva" in Richard Wagner's Mastersingers .

With effect from October 1, 1869, Mallinger was engaged at the Berlin court opera and was there in constant competition with her colleague Pauline Lucca until April 1872 . In 1882 she left the Berliner Ensemble and went on a few tours until 1895; u. a. to the Mariinsky Theater in Saint Petersburg and to the State Opera in Vienna . She also gave several recitals at the Berlin State Opera . On the occasion of one of these soirées Mallinger got to know the actor and theater director Otto Düringsfeld , whom she married and with whom she had a daughter Marie , born in 1878 , who married the director and theater director Martin Zickel .

From 1890 Mallinger was entrusted with a teaching position at the Prague Conservatory . Later she moved back to Berlin , also as a singing teacher at the Eichelberg Conservatory . Kaiser Wilhelm II arranged for her to be appointed Royal Prussian Chamber Singer in 1916 .

Mallinger died nine weeks after her 73rd birthday on April 19, 1920 in Berlin and found her final resting place in the old cathedral cemetery of the St. Hedwigs community there on Liesenstrasse .
