Heidemann, born in Cologne, began his club career from 1921 to 1930 at VfR Köln 04 rrh. , then switched to Bonn FV , before he accepted the offer from SV Werder Bremen at the beginning of 1934 during the period of general unemployment - combined with a job at the cigarette factory Martin Brinkmann AG - and moved to the Weser. By reaching 6th rank in 1932/33 in the Rhine district, Heidemann was qualified with the Bonn FV for the 1933/34 season for the new Gauliga Mittelrhein . With Bonn he finished 5th in the debut round of the Gauliga era and had also played his way into the national team with his performances. Last but not least, his ideas in the district selection of the Middle Rhine in July 1933 against Baden (2: 1) and Saxony-Anhalt (2: 4) were helpful. On November 19, 1933, the fast winger from Bonner FV made his debut alongside other debutants Ernst Lehner and Ludwig Goldbrunner in the international match in Zurich against Switzerland in the national team. In the 2-0 success of the selection of Reich trainer Otto Nerz , the attack in the line-up with Lehner, Ludwig Lachner , Karl Hohmann , Josef Rasselnberg and Heidemann had accumulated. Hohmann scored the 1-0 lead in the 72nd minute after submission by Heidemann.

With his club change to Werder Bremen he won two championships in the Gauliga Lower Saxony in 1936 and 1937 and the subsequent final rounds of the German championship . Heidemann has played all 12 group games against Viktoria Stolp, Vorwärts Rasensport Gleiwitz, ETV Hamburg, FC Schalke 04 and Hertha BSC and scored three goals. In both years Heidemann finished second in the group with Bremen: in 1936 behind VR Gleiwitz and in 1937 against Schalke 04.

Selection / national team

In the regional selection of Lower Saxony he was still active until 1938 and is listed in 13 competition games in total - Middle Rhine and Lower Saxony. When the 1st German Gymnastics and Sports Festival took place in Breslau from July 24 to 31, 1938 , a large tournament of the Gau selection teams from football was also held. Heidemann played with Lower Saxony on the left wing with successes against Saxony (2-0), Brandenburg (3-1) and in the semifinals against Südwest (4-1) up to the final on July 30th against Ostmark. The Viennese with goalkeeper Platzer, the defender couple Karl Sesta - Willibald Schmaus and the five-man attack with Karl Zischek , Wilhelm Hahnemann , Josef Stroh , Leopold Neumer and Johann Pesser clearly prevailed 4: 1. Heidemann scored the goal to 1: 4 in the 55th minute.

After his club change to Bremen, the winger was appointed to the decisive course from May 7 to 19, 1934 before the World Cup with games against the English professional team from Derby County. After the course and the test matches, Reich trainer Otto Nerz called an 18-man squad for the tournament in Italy, in which eight attacking players were called up: Ernst Albrecht , Edmund Conen , Hohmann, Stanislaus Kobierski , Lehner, Rudolf Noack , Otto Siffling and Heidemann. The winger made his second international appearance on June 7th in Naples when he played for third place against Austria. After the lost semi-final against Czechoslovakia (1: 3), the regular seat holder paused on the left wing, Düsseldorf “Tau” Kobierski and Heidemann completed the five-man row in the attack alongside Lehner, Siffling, Conen and Fritz Szepan in his place . After just 25 seconds, the Bremen man fired a sharp shot at Austria's goal guarded by Peter Platzer , which the goalkeeper of Hugo Meisl's team was only able to fend off at the feet of Lehner, whom the Augsburger pushed in unimpeded to make it 1-0. The game ended 3: 2 for Germany and the DFB-Elf had achieved 3rd place.

After the successful world championship, it took Heidemann over a year to make his third international appearance. The competition on the left wing with Kobierski, Josef Fath , Wilhelm Simetsreiter and Adolf Urban was top-class and prevented a double-digit number. Heidemann played his third and last international match on October 13, 1935 in Königsberg against Latvia (3-0).
