Matthias Wagner K came to the mediation and presentation of art and culture through theater and the visual arts.

After moving from the GDR to the Federal Republic of Germany, he studied from 1984 Free Painting in the Department of Art and Design at the Cologne plant Schools of FH Cologne (Technical University of Cologne - University of Applied Sciences) and graduated in 1989 with his appointment as Master Student. From 1986 onwards, more space-related projects as well as film and video works were created. Traces in Life ) / Ludwig Múzeum Budapest ( The History of Light Art / Biennale for International Light Art - open light in private spaces , on the occasion of the exhibition The pleasure of light - György Kepes & Frank. J. Malina ) / Collegium Hungaricum Berlin ( Artificial lighting in the context of art , Matthias Wagner K in conversation with Jan-Peter ER Sonntag about the fluid light and its apparatus as a material for artistic creation ) and Art Academy Münster ( LECTURES - open light in private spaces ).

He has been an exhibition maker and curator since 2002 . He curated exhibitions on the cultural history of light and its use in the art of the 20th and 21st centuries and is considered a specialist in Nordic art and culture. In 2005 he headed the Iceland Pictures Festival - Fine Art, Photography, Literature, Music, Fashion & Design from Iceland (with C. Stahl) in Cologne. In 2006 he was appointed curator at the Nordic Embassies in Berlin, in 2009 he was appointed artistic director of the first Nordic Fashion Biennale in Reykjavik and, as chief curator on behalf of the Republic of Iceland, he was responsible for the art and cultural program Sagenhaftes Iceland, Iceland's guest of honor at the 2011 Frankfurt Book Fair. Since 2002 he has been leading the light-art project Hellweg - a light path and in 2010 the first biennial for international light art - open light in private spaces with works a. a. by Angela Bulloch , Ólafur Elíasson , Jenny Holzer , Philippe Parreno , Tobias Rehberger , James Turrell and Haegue Yang . Within a year, Wagner K repositioned the museum with a completely revised exhibition and participation concept. Instead of dealing with the objects solely from their history, there has been a negotiation and negotiation of contemporary and untimely considerations, from which questions arise that are repeatedly encountered in thematic exhibitions with new object constellations.

In 2009 Wagner K was a member of the project advisory board of the Neuer Sächsischer Kunstverein in the Festspielhaus Hellerau, European Center for the Arts , from 2009 to 2013 a jury member for the European Future Art Prize and is a member of the network of German curators of the Goethe Institute.
