Maximilian Justus Günther Schreiber , from 1786 to 1812 Schreiber von Schreibershofen , from 1812 von Schreibershofen (born August 7, 1785 in Neustadt an der Orla ; † December 24, 1881 in Dresden ) was a Saxon general of the infantry , adjutant general King Friedrich August II. and member of the German Federal Military Commission .

Life

Maximilian von Schreibershofen came from the Neustadt family Schreiber. His father Johann Friedrich Schreiber married Friederike Wilhelmine von Stein from Neunhofen in 1782 , a lady-in-waiting of Princess Güntherine von Schwarzburg -Sondershausen, who lived in Neustädter Schloss . As Rittmeister , Johann Friedrich Schreiber was ennobled with the Schwarzburg-Rudolstädter Nobility Letter of January 31, 1786 and from that point on bore the name Schreiber von Schreibershofen, from 1812 only von Schreibershofen.

Schreibershofen was educated in the Dresden Cadet Corps on June 1, 1797 , and on February 1, 1803, was appointed ensign in an infantry regiment. In 1806 he fought as a second lieutenant in the service of the Prussian-Saxon army in the battle of Jena and Auerstedt against the troops of Napoleon. In 1810 Schreibershofen was appointed captain in the general staff and in 1812 he was sent to the headquarters of Emperor Napoleon as adjutant to General Karl von Watzdorf . On December 5, 1812 he was promoted to major and worked as adjutant general to King Friedrich August II. In 1813 he took part in the Battle of Leipzig . In 1815 he went to war against Napoleon for the third time as adjutant to the English General Wellington near Waterloo . He then was for a short time the Saxon military plenipotentiary at the Bundestag of the German Confederation in Frankfurt am Main and was in command of the Saxon Cadet Corps from 1829 to 1850. He retired on December 2, 1850.

Because of his merits he was made an honorary citizen of the city of Neustadt an der Orla.
