Maximilian Nicolaus Moritz-Casimir Prince zu Bentheim-Tecklenburg (* 1969 in Rheda ) is a German entrepreneur and art historian . He is the head of the House of Bentheim-Tecklenburg and has been President of the German Castle Association since May 2019 .

family

Maximilian zu Bentheim-Tecklenburg was born in Rheda in 1969 as the youngest son of Moritz-Casimir Fürst zu Bentheim-Tecklenburg and Huberta (Sissi) Countess von Hardenberg . His older brothers are Carl-Gustav (* 1960), Philipp (* 1964) and Christoph (1966–1987). The family lived for many years in the small moated castle Haus Bosfeld near Rheda-Wiedenbrück , and in 1987 they moved to the old headquarters of Schloss Rheda .

In 2000 he married the art historian Lady Marissa Clare Fortescue (* 1973), a great niece of Rosamunde Pilcher in Rheda-Wiedenbrück . The couple lives with their four children in the residential palace in Rheda.

Life

Maximilian zu Bentheim-Tecklenburg studied art history , management and business administration in Paris , Cambridge and London . Today he manages real estate , castles, gardens and forests in his own portfolio. These include the castles in Rheda , Bosfeld , Hohenlimburg and the former monasteries in Herzebrock and Clarholz . He is also the owner of the Princely Archive of Rheda and the Princely to Bentheim-Tecklenburgische Musikbibliothek Rheda .

From 2003 to 2016, together with his wife Marissa, he organized the garden festival “Spring in the Park” in the Rheda Palace Park. Prominent guests such as u. a. the publicist Asfa-Wossen Asserate , the actress Gudrun Landgrebe and the English author Rosamunde Pilcher . From 2017 the event was relocated to the Clarholz Palace and Monastery Gardens. Several times a year he opens the festival rooms at Rheda Castle and Hohenlimburg for receptions, concerts and cultural events.

Maximilian zu Bentheim-Tecklenburg has numerous honorary offices , since 2005 he has been chairman of the “Association of the Nobility in the Rhineland and Westphalia-Lippe” and since 2016 President of the “German Classes ”. On May 5, 2019, Bentheim-Tecklenburg, who was previously a member of the Presidium, became President of the German Castle Association . He is also on the advisory board of the United Westphalian Aristocratic Archives .

Furthermore, he has the church patronage over twelve congregations, including the Ev . Reformed parish of the old Hofkirche Hohenlimburg , the Protestant parish Elsey and the Ev. City Church of Gronau (Westphalia) .

As a patron or sponsor , he supports various charitable, church and social projects with the Princely House.

Like his father, Maximilian zu Bentheim-Tecklenburg is a committed monument protector as well as a passionate nature lover and hunter .
