Takk ... (2005) Með suð í eyrum við spilum endalaust Valtari (2012)

Með suð í eyrum við spilum endalaust is the fifth regular studio album by the Icelandic band Sigur Rós and was released in June 2008. In German, the title of the album means something like "With a hum in our ears we play endlessly".

The pieces Gobbledigook , Inní mér syngur vitleysingur and Við spilum endalaust were released as singles. Gobbledigook was already available as a free download before the album was released; You could listen to the entire album on the band's homepage. With the song All Alright , a song is in English for the first time in the history of the band.

Style and texts

Overall, the music on this album is less spherical than on its predecessors, a very percussive style and an often dominating bass dominate the majority of the songs. Góðan daginn and Straumnes, however, are still vaguely reminiscent of the style that shaped Takk ... and () .

Furthermore, additional, new elements are added, such as an acoustic guitar as a leading instrument (for example with Illgresi ) or frequent use of the piano . The most striking stylistic device of Sigur Rós, the electric guitar played with a cello bow , is almost no longer used.

The texts, all of which were written by Jón Þór Birgisson, continue the trend of being characterized less by obscurity and ambiguity - especially the texts on the Ágætis byrjun - than by a relative simplicity and catchiness. In addition, the invented language Vonlenska , with the exception of Festival , which is sung entirely in this language, is included in the songs with otherwise Icelandic lyrics. This is also in contrast to the earlier albums, when some songs (on () all of them) were sung entirely on Vonlenska. "All Alright" is the first and so far only song in English on a Sigur Rós album.

Reviews

The album was well received by critics, but largely worse than previous releases by the band. For example, Matthias Manthe from laut.de gave three out of five points and wrote: “Indecision is the crux of this record: its authors only dare to take the small step into aesthetic emancipation.” The English Rolling Stone and Allmusic.com gave the album four of five points. The Baby Blue Pages praised the consistent continuation of the positive mood that Sigur Rós had developed since Takk ...
