() is a music album released in 2002 by the Icelandic band Sigur Rós . It contains eight unnamed pieces.

It is the band's third album and is divided into two parts: The first four songs are “light and optimistic” according to the band, while the last four are rather “dark and melancholy”. These two halves are separated on the record by a 36-second silence.

The pieces on the album are sung by singer Jón Þór Birgisson in a self-created language called vonlenska (German: hopeful ), which is made up of meaningless sounds that are similar to Icelandic , but also sound a bit like English . The phrases in vonlenska are often repeated within the pieces, but also run through the entire album, which makes the connection between the songs clear. According to the band, the listeners of the album are explicitly invited to think about the content of the songs themselves and to write them down on the eight blank pages of the booklet.

Track list, working title of the songs including translations

None of the tracks on the album have a name on the CD or officially. This is also part of the idea that you want to leave it up to the listener what he thinks about the songs. In order to still be able to distinguish the songs, Untitled 1 to Untitled 8 initially prevailed. In the meantime you can often find the earlier working titles as names for the songs (e.g. Vaka for Untitled 1 ), as on the DVD Heima (2007) and the acoustic EP Heim (2007).

  1. Track 1 - 6:38 ( Vaka  - name of Orri's daughter)
  2. Track 2 - 7:33 ( Fyrsta  - "Das Erste")
  3. Track 3 - 6:33 ( Samskeyti  - "Appendix")
  4. Track 4 - 7:33 ( Njósnavélin  - "The espionage machine", also The Nothing Song )
  5. Track 5 - 9:57 ( Álafoss  - name of a protected area in the vicinity of the band's studio)
  6. Track 6 - 8:48 ( E-Bow  - Hólm plays this piece with an E-Bow )
  7. Track 7 - 13:00 ( Dauðalagið  - "The Death Song")
  8. Track 8 - 11:45 ( Popplagið  - "The Pop-Song")
