Mecitözü is a city and a district in the Turkish province of Çorum . The city is located about 30 kilometers east of the provincial capital Çorum . The city of Mecitözü lies on the river Efennik Çayı , a tributary of the Çorum Çayı , which in turn flows into the Çekerek Çayı . In the north lies the Çakır Dağı mountain range , in the south the Kırklar Dağı . The city is home to a quarter of the district's population (2018: 27.37%).
The district is in the east of the province. It borders in the east and north on the province of Amasya , in the south on the district of Ortaköy and in the west on the central district. With its low population density , it did not even reach half the provincial average. In addition to the district town, the district also consists of 54 villages ( Köy ) with an average of 211 residents. Hisarkavak is the largest village with 682 inhabitants.
