Alaca is a city and a district in the Turkish province of Çorum . The city is located about 75 kilometers south of the provincial capital Çorum on the D-190 road from Sungurlu to Tokat . The former name of Alacas was Hüseyinabad. The name was changed to today's name in 1932.

The district is located in the south of the province. It borders in the south on the province of Yozgat , in the west on the Boğazkale and Sungurlu districts, in the north on the central district and in the east on the district Ortaköy . To the northwest lies the Elmalı Dağı mountain range , to the south the Bozok Platosu plateau .

In addition to the county seat, the district also consists of 101 villages ( Köy ) with an average of 118 inhabitants. Sarısüleyman is the largest village with 576 inhabitants. The population density is below the provincial average (43 inhabitants per km²).

Worth seeing

About 15 kilometers northwest of the city is the Alacahöyük excavation site near the village of the same name. It is possibly on the site of the Hittite Zippalanda .
