Bayat is a city and a district in the Turkish province of Çorum . The city is located about 60 kilometers west of the provincial capital Çorum and south of the 2044 meter high Gecmiş Dağları in the valley of the Bayat Çayı river, which flows into the Kızılırmak a little south .

The district is located in the west of the province. It borders Çankırı Province to the west , Kastamonu Province to the north, İskilip District to the east and Uğurludağ and Sungurlu Districts to the south .

The district was formed in 1958 and, in addition to the district town, consists of 39 villages ( Köy ) with an average of 269 inhabitants. Ahacık is the largest village with 1,172 inhabitants. The population density of the district is below the provincial average.
