Kargı is a city and a district in the Çorum Province in the Black Sea region of Turkey . The city is 116 km northwest of the provincial capital Çorum . The district town houses around a third (2018: 34.14%) of the district's population. Kargı is located in the Kızılırmak river valley at 400 m above sea level. To the north the terrain rises to 2,084 m. The first known settlement of the city of Kargı took place 1,500 years ago. The settlement was known as Blaene in ancient times .

The district is located in the north of the province and borders in the west and northwest on the province of Kastamonu , in the northeast on the province of Sinop . Osmancık and İskilip counties form the internal border in the south and south-east .
Kargı County emerged from the former Nahiye of Tosya in 1936 (then Kastamonu ). In 1953 the district moved to the province of Çorum. In addition to the district town, it currently consists of 58 villages ( Köy ) with an average of 178 residents. The largest village is called Hacıhamza and has 901 inhabitants. The district has the lowest population density in the province with 13 inhabitants per square kilometer .
economy
The county is known for growing high quality rice and okra and for making a specific type of milk and crumbly goat cheese known as T ulum Peyniri .
