Meckingsen is a district of the city of Soest in Westphalia .

The village in the Niederbörde lies north of the Soest core city between the districts of Hattropholsen and Katrop .

history

Meckingsen was first mentioned as Mecchenhuson in a document from 1170 . The first word component corresponds to the Saxon short name “Macco”, in full name form probably Marquard (Markwart: border residents). In 1532 there was actually a farmer Johan Marqward in Meckingsen, who can be assigned to the then Markhoff farm (today: Bernecker). By 1955 , Meckingsen consisted of 14 farms and 16 cottages . After that, the number of places to live tripled.

Meckingsen was incorporated into the district town of Soest by the Soest / Beckum law on July 1, 1969.

Since 1997 there has been a group of children and adults in Meckingsen. Youth Aid Möhnesee eV

Meckingsen is known regionally for its insemination station on the former Jaspert farm, today Rinder-Union West eG.

Townscape

Meckingsen shows the typical character of a village on the Soest Börde. The old settlement structure with its irregular paths and plots has largely been preserved to this day. As in other Bördedörfern, the townscape is characterized by many old deciduous trees. This forms an attractive contrast to the wide fields of the surrounding Börde.
