Soest and its districts

Ruploh is a district of Soest in Westphalia . The place has a joint mayor with the neighboring Hiddingsen .

Ruploh is located in the south of Soest, between Hiddingsen and Deiringsen , north of the municipality of Möhnesee . Ruploh has been part of the Soester Börde , or more precisely: the Oberbörde, since the Middle Ages . The BAB 44 runs through the district in an east-west direction and Arnsberger Straße in a north-south direction.

history

In prehistoric times there was a settlement of the Rössen culture in the area of Deiringsen and Ruploh , which was archaeologically examined first in 1934 and then in the course of the construction of the BAB 44 in the 1970s.

Ruploh itself is mentioned for the first time in 1249 as "Rupenlo" and is likely to have emerged as a clearing settlement in the 10th or 11th century.

The origin of the name "Ruploh" can probably be traced back to the Old Saxon beropta 'plucking', Middle Low German, ropen, roppen, rofen, rupfen, raufen, zausen '. The name "Ruploh" (Roppenloh) actually describes a forest (Loh) in which leaves were plucked from the branches for fodder purposes.

At that time, many of the forests in the Soest urban area were used to obtain deciduous hay, which was fed to the cattle. Twigs were cut off from the trees at intervals of several years ( snips ). The leaves obtained from this were dried and used for winter feeding of the animals. This type of feed production was of considerable importance until modern times. In the Soester Holzordnung of 1590, under point 20, “leaf litter” is expressly forbidden. The aim of this ban was the extraction of large timber. Under item 12 of the ordinance it goes on to say: “Undergrowth, heister and beech trunks should be spared and not cut down.” So leaf hay was ruffled, plucked or tugged from the trees.

The Lords of Volmestein and their successors had possessions in R. since the Middle Ages. In 1879/1880 the Ruploh cemetery , which still exists today and is now immediately north of the “Soest” motorway junction, was laid out.

On July 1, 1969, Ruploh was incorporated into the district town of Soest due to the Soest / Beckum Act .

In the southern area of the district, anti-aircraft missiles were stationed until 1995, under American direction in the 1980s of the Nike Hercules type , equipped with nuclear warheads.
