Soest and its districts

Katrop is a district of Soest in Westphalia .

geography

The closed village is about three kilometers north of Soest. Neighboring southwest is Meckingsen , east the district Thöningsen . Katrop has 115 inhabitants (2008), i. H. 0.2% of the population of the entire city of Soest, making it a smaller one of the Soest districts . Only four districts (Epsingsen, Paradiese, Ruploh, Röllingsen) have fewer inhabitants. There are four full-time farms in the village (2008).

history

In the Middle Ages, Katrop belonged to the Hinderking glory and was owned by the noblemen of Volmerstein as a Cologne fief . In Katrop was the high court for this dominion, which met under the "tribal linden tree".

During the Second World War, Katrop suffered particularly from an Allied air raid on Soest, as the weather conditions at the time of the attack were very bad. A total of two bombing raids took place in which bombs fell on Katrop. It was not until 1944 that an anti-aircraft battery was stationed in Katrop , but it was no longer used. In 2002, two incendiary bombs that had not been detonated were found in a trench during the "Stark-Sauber-Soest" campaign.

Katrop has been part of Soest since the municipal reform that came into force on July 1, 1969 .

Surname

The place name Katrop with Westphalian -trop / -trup = "-dorf" can be represented accordingly with Ka (t) -dorf. Historically, the first syllable is derived from Katerbecke (used in 1202 as Caterbeke and 1209 as Katerbecke), with the second syllable of the original word -be (c) k (e) standing for "-bach" or "Wasserlauf" (locally used as "Katerbieke", cf. for the formation with be (c) k (e) numerous place names, especially in the Sauerland ). "Katerbach" became "Katerdorf".
