history

Thöningsen is first mentioned in 1168 (1190) as Thodenchusen. The farms of Willingheppen , Hemmis , Kutmecke , Ellingsen as well as the farmers Wehringsen, which originally belonged to the Glory Hinderking , also belong to the original municipality or to the current district . On July 1, 1969, Thöningsen was incorporated into the district town of Soest by the Soest / Beckum law . The one-class ev. Elementary school of Thöningsen with grades 1 to 8 in one room and one teacher was closed in 1964. The school building was demolished in 1970 and rebuilt in 1982 in the Westphalian Open Air Museum in Detmold . Historically (school, shooting club, etc.) there are closer contacts to the Katrop district of Soest and the Balksen district of Welver .
