history

The company goes back to a physiotherapy practice called physiotherapiecity , which was founded in Winterthur in 2001 . In 2007 it was renamed medbasecity and in the same year finally changed to Medbase. A cooperation with the fitness studios operated by Migros has existed since it was founded . In December 2010, Migros took over the majority of Medbase with 53%, divided between the four cooperatives Aare , Lucerne , Eastern Switzerland and Zurich . At that time, Medbase had ten locations with 150 employees. Other cooperatives took part in the course of the subsequent expansion, and the shares were gradually transferred to the MGB.

As of mid-October 2015, Medbase took over 70% of the Santémed health centers of the Swica health insurance company . The cooperation resulted in the largest network in outpatient basic medical care in Switzerland . In January 2017, Fit im Job AG was taken over, whereby Medbase increased its commitment in the field of corporate health promotion. In November 2017, Medbase took over the Permanence responsible for emergency care at Zurich Central Station . At the end of 2017, Medbase agreed a strategic cooperation with Spital Simmental-Thun-Saanenland (STS) AG for the Bernese Oberland region . The two partners founded Medbase Berner Oberland AG to set up so-called "Medical Centers" that offer outpatient medicine services.

With the takeover of the Burgdorf operation center in September 2018, Medbase increased its commitment to outpatient care, from prevention to acute care and rehabilitation. In November 2018, Medbase acquired Topwell pharmacies , the oldest pharmacy chain in Switzerland with a total of 43 locations.

In 2020, Medbase started a cooperation with the Hirslanden private hospital group .
