history

The earliest mention of it comes from the year 990, when Manisi is mentioned as the property of the Hilwartshausen monastery . At that time, the monastery awarded 4 farms with a size of 120 acres each to the individual Mieres in Meensen , and various other farmers received properties between 60 and 30 acres. In later times, the noble family of those zu Stockhausen acquired several properties in the village. Pottery was an essential line of business , as many potters and growers had settled in Meensen. Meensen was to distinguish it from neighboring desolate fallen Vriemeensen also called Gropmeynsen, which stands for pottery settlement (Gröperort). The reference to the former pottery location can still be seen in the local coat of arms.
