My friend Sybille is a comedy produced by the DEFA studio for feature films, group “Berlin”, based on motifs from the story of the same name by Rudi Strahl . The film celebrated its premiere on June 24, 1967 on the open-air theater in Berlin-Grünau.

The film is about a tour group from the GDR on a Black Sea cruise and revolves around the comical figure of Hurtig on the one hand, and the unconventional love story of the young people Ronny and Sybille on the other. The tour group consists mainly of "privileged" people (doctors, professors, etc. with families). Hurtig (main role, played by Rolf Herricht) jumps in for a friend at short notice as a substitute tour guide, which is clearly overstrained on the flight from Berlin-Schönefeld to Odessa . Later on on the cruise ship “ Iwan Franko ”, due to his disorganization, he gets constant criticism from the “main tour guide” as well as some participants in the tour group. After a day at the beach in Batumi , where Hurtig tries to couple the two of them (Ronny does not reply to Sybille's advertisement because he is interested in a beautiful blonde on board), Sybille and Ronny miss the cruise ship's departure. Hurtig also remains behind in search of them. Independently of each other, they are now trying to get to the next port in Sochi by land on the Georgian / Russian coast , and experience some adventures in the process. The hospitality, friendliness and generosity of the local population in the Soviet Union are particularly emphasized . Finally, after a few days, everyone is safely back on board the ship and finally by air back to Berlin-Schönefeld, where Ronny and Sybille decide to see each other again and tour guide Hurtig is amazed to find that his "new friend", a dog who had followed him since a trip on the railway line between Batumi and Sochi, already sitting in a taxi.

The cruise ship "Iwan Franko" shown in the film was one of a series of five cruise ships that were built for the Soviet Union as reparations in the 1960s by the Mathias Thesen shipyard in Wismar. One of them, the current Marco Polo (ex. Alexandr Pushkin ), is still in operation. In addition to the main actor Rolf Herricht, his long-time sketch partner Hans-Joachim Preil can also be seen in a supporting role. It was like hands up or the year before I was shooting the second of three collaborations between the two of them in movies.
