Mercatone Uno (cycling team)
Mercatone Uno was an Italian cycling team that existed from 1997 to 2003.
The team of the Italian sponsored hypermarket chain Mercatone Uno and several co-sponsors. It emerged from the Carrera Jeans team . Only in 1997 and 2002 was the team exclusively called Mercatone Uno . In its senior year, it was downgraded to UCI GS-2 status.
Team managers were u. a. Luciano Pezzi (until 1998), Franco Cornacchia (1999), Manuela Ronchi and Roberta Gasperoni . Sports leaders were u. a. Giuseppe Martinelli , Alessandro Giannelli , Orlando Maini and Marino Amadori .
The team's greatest success was Marco Pantani's tour double , who won both the Giro d'Italia and the Tour de France in 1998. Stefano Garzelli also won the Giro and the Tour de Suisse .
