Cristian Moreni (born November 21, 1972 in Asola , Lombardy ) is a former Italian cyclist .

Career

Cristian Moreni started his career at Brescialat in 1998 . In his second year, in which he drove with Liquigas , he was able to win a stage of the Vuelta a España . The following year he won a stage in the Giro d'Italia . In 2001 he moved to Mercatone Uno . The successes remained for the time being until he went to Alessio and in 2003 won a stage on the Regio Tour and the Giro del Veneto . In 2004 he was successful again. He won a stage of the Route du Sud and soon after became Italian road racing champion. In 2005 he switched to Quick Step-Innergetic , from 2006 Moreni drove for the French ProTeam Cofidis .

On July 25, 2007, it was announced that Moreni had tested positive for testosterone on the 11th stage of the 2007 Tour de France . This resulted in the exit of the entire Cofidis team from the 2007 Tour de France. Moreni admitted the violation and waived a B sample. He was banned for two years. In autumn 2009 it became known that Moreni was the first driver to be convicted of doping to pay the UCI an annual salary penalty.
