Mercy Genesis

Miesinnei Mercy Genesis (born September 20, 1997 in Gbaraun , Southern Ijaw , Bayelsa state ) is a Nigerian wrestler . With a height of 1.52 m, her competition weight is 48 kg.

Life

Mercy Genesis is studying Health Education and Sports Science at the University of Port Harcourt at Port Harcourt . She started freestyle wrestling in 2012. She is coached by Olympic wrestler Victor Kodei . Her role model is Daniel Igali .

International success

She had her first international success in freestyle wrestling at the African Wrestling Championships for Juniors in 2014 in Alexandria in the weight class up to 52 kg. She received a silver medal there behind Habiba Toleb .

She won gold at the 2015 African Games in Brazzaville in the 48 kg weight class (flyweight). At the 2016 Summer Olympics , she was eliminated in the weight class up to 48 kg in the 2nd round with 0: 3 against Iwona Matkowska after she had a bye in the 1st round. She qualified for the Olympic Games at a qualifying tournament in Algiers in April 2016 that she won. At the African Wrestling Championships 2017 in Marrakech , she again won gold in the 48 kg class. From 2018 she took part in the African Wrestling Championships in the 50 kg class and won the championship in Port Harcourt in 2018, in Hammamet in 2019 and in Algiers in 2020. She finished third at the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast . She won the Africa Games again in El Jadida in 2019 .
