content

In the film, the table around which four people from the cultured middle class meet plays the central role. These include Michele, Nina, Giovanna and Max. Michele is a successful book author and married to Nina. Giovanna is wealthy and a friend of Nina's. Max is an actor. Nina and Max have an affair that Michele should be familiar with. Meanwhile, Giovanna is in love with Michele. The evenings and conversations in this group have a rather boring and amoral atmosphere, until Max makes a proposal to Nina, the "distraction" by Ric. He is a young rebellious student who is prostituting himself. Ric falls in love with Nina and tries to commit suicide. Nina saves him and decides to spend her life with him. The relationship doesn't work, however, and shortly thereafter Ric brings Nina back to Michele. Michele decides to include Ric in the table so that he doesn't lose his wife Nina himself. The game starts all over again.
