Michał Hieronim Bobrzyński (born September 30, 1849 in Krakow , † July 3, 1935 in Łopuchówko with Murowana Goślina in the Poznański Powiat of the Greater Poland Voivodeship ) was a Polish historian and politician, member of the Galician Parliament of the V, VI, VII, VIII., IX. and 10th legislative periods, to the Austrian House of Representatives of the 7th and 10th legislative periods, Kk governor of the Kingdom of Galicia and Lodomeria, professor of the history of Polish and German law at the Jagiellonian University in Krakow.

Life

From 1859 he attended St. Anna High School in Kraków, after which he studied law at the Jagiellonian University. After completing his studies, he was employed by the local tax authorities, in 1872 he received a doctorate in law, and a year later he received his habilitation.

He continued his studies in Berlin in 1874 , then at the University of Strasbourg with Rudolph Sohm . In 1877 he was appointed professor of the history of Polish and German law at the Jagiellonian University.

Among his students were Władysław Abraham , Bolesław Ulanowski , Stanisław Estreicher , Oswald Balzer , and Alfred Halban . In 1878 he was elected a member of the Polish Academy of Scholarship .

His political activity began in 1885 when he was elected member of the Galician Landtag in Lemberg and the Austrian House of Representatives in Vienna .

1891–1902 he was deputy chairman of the state school council of Galicia.

1908–1913 he held the post of Kk governor of the Kingdom of Galicia and Lodomeria. From 1914 Bobrzyński was also a member of the Austrian manor house .

Michał Bobrzyński was one of the central activists of the conservative group " Stańczycy ", which operated in Krakow. He is considered the most influential historian of the Cracow School of History.

After the First World War he was involved in drawing up the basic Polish constitution.

Bobrzyński spent the last years of his life in Greater Poland , where he bought the Garby estate near Środa Wielkopolska .
