Clam-Martinic Ministry

The Ministry Clam-Martinic ( "Ministry" called in the former parlance the whole Cabinet ) was the short-lived governments of the Austrian lands (vulgo Cisleithania ) under Emperor Charles I in the First World War . It existed from December 20, 1916 to June 23, 1917.

Term of office

The cabinet succeeded the Koerber II Ministry , which Emperor Franz Joseph I had appointed after the assassination of Prime Minister Stürgkh on October 21, 1916. After Franz Joseph died on November 21, his successor Charles I wanted to change the "inherited" government and after another four weeks on December 20, Koerber's request for dismissal accordingly . The Clam-Martinic Ministry was the first of four governments of Cisleithania that the last emperor appointed in the two years of his rule, without the change of government changing any essential part of the politics of the Austrian states and the increasing divergence of their nationalities.

The Reichsrat , which had been adjourned since the spring of 1914, was convened again by the Emperor for May 30, 1917 at the suggestion of Clam-Martinic, but representatives of the nationalities made statements in the opening session in which it was already announced what would actually happen when the monarchy collapsed in autumn 1918 happened.

The head of state of Cisleithania was Charles I, Emperor of Austria and King of Bohemia (until November 11, 1918). The joint Austro-Hungarian ministers at the time were:
