Ministry of Koerber II

The Koerber II Ministry (October 31 - December 20, 1916; "Ministry" referred to the entire cabinet in the parlance at the time ) was a very brief government of the Austrian states (commonly known as Cisleithanien ) during the First World War , the last of Emperor Franz Joseph I. appointed cabinet.

Term of office

The government followed the Ministry Stürgkh of Karl Stürgkh . Stürgkh, since 1911 kk Prime Minister , exponent of the advocates of war ("war party"), had increasingly passed the Reichsrat (this was postponed in spring 1914), which earned him the reputation of a "dictator". On October 21, 1916, he was shot by the Social Democrat Friedrich Adler for this reason .

On October 28, 1916, Emperor Franz Joseph I reappointed the German-liberal-minded joint finance minister , Ernest von Koerber , who had already proven himself to be politically balanced in his first term in office 1900-1904, as Prime Minister, while the previous ministry continued to operate Business was entrusted. On October 31, 1916, the Kaiser appointed the new government at Koerber's suggestion.

On November 30, 1916, the Koerber II government decreed that the Prime Minister's new Office for People's Nutrition , which later became an independent department for a few years, should begin its work on December 1, 1916; on the same day the work of the food office in the Ministry of the Interior was to be stopped.

On November 21, Franz Joseph I. died, and his great-nephew succeeded him as Charles I after. He replaced the Koerber government after four weeks with a new one under Heinrich Clam-Martinic , after Koerber had resigned on December 13, 1916. The Clam-Martinic Ministry replaced the Koerber Ministry on December 20, 1916.

Head of State of Cisleithania was Franz Joseph I, Emperor of Austria and King of Bohemia until November 21, 1916, then Karl I. The joint Austro-Hungarian ministers at the time were Count Ottokar Czernin ( Foreign Minister ), Stefan Baron Burián von Rajecz ( interim head of the joint finance ministry according to Koerber) and Alexander Freiherr von Krobatin ( minister of war until April 1917).
