Michael Albus

Michael Albus (born March 17, 1942 in Bühl / Baden) is a German theologian, TV journalist and book author.

Albus studied German and theology in Freiburg im Breisgau from 1964 to 1969, and did his doctorate with Klaus Hemmerle . From 1971 to 1976 he headed the press, journalism and culture departments at the Central Committee of German Catholics , after which he headed the Church and Life (Catholic) editorial department at ZDF until 1985 . Until 1998 he was the head of the main editorial department "Children, Youth and Family" at ZDF.

Albus is the author of numerous documentaries and reports, he was a commentator in "heute" and "heute-journal" and moderator of magazine programs and live discussions. Albus became known through three series of cultural reports, "Apartments of the Gods" about the sacred mountains of the world religions (together with Reinhold Messner ) and about "Early Places of Christianity" in the footsteps of the Apostle Paul and "Apartments of God", about mystical places of the three monotheistic ones Religions.

Since 2000, Albus has been the editorial director of the magazine Ost-West - Europäische Perspektiven . Since 2002 he has been honorary professor for religious didactics in the media at the theological faculty of the University of Freiburg im Breisgau.

In February 2011, more than 150 theologians from Germany, Austria and Switzerland - including Albus - signed a memorandum , written by an eight-person editorial team, Church 2011: A Necessary Awakening , in which, in addition to the admission of women to ecclesiastical office and the participation of the church people the appointment of pastors and bishops also called for the end of celibacy .
