Michael Beavis

Sir Michael Gordon Beavis , KCB , CBE , AFC (born August 13, 1929 - † June 7, 2020 in Pissouri , Cyprus ) was a British officer in the Royal Air Force , most recently as General (Air Chief Marshal) between Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Allies NATO forces in Central Europe AFCENT ( Allied Forces Central Europe ) was.

Life

Michael Gordon Beavis began his officer training at the Royal Air Force College Cranwell after attending Kilburn Grammar School on September 8, 1947 and was accepted as a Lieutenant (Pilot Officer) in the Royal Air Force (RAF) on August 25, 1949 . On October 1, 1951, he was taken over as a professional soldier (Permanent Commission) with the rank of First Lieutenant (Flying Officer) . On 1 January 1962. he was a Major (Squadron Leader) , the Air Force Cross awarded (AFC), having previously in June 1961, a strategic bomber of the type Avro Vulcan a non-stop flight record from the military airfield RAF Scampton to air base RAAF Base Richmond in Australia .

In July 1966 Beavis was a Lieutenant Colonel (Wing Commander) commander ( Commanding Officer ) of No. 10 Squadron RAF and remained in this use until October 1968. He then succeeded Air Commodore Christopher North-Lewis in 1968 as commander of the RAF Akrotiri air base in Cyprus and held this post until 1969, when Air Commodore John Stacey took over. In this role he was also promoted to Brigadier General ( Air Commodore ) . In 1971 he moved to the Ministry of Defense , where he took on the post of deputy head of the Department of Defense Policy. In 1976 he became Senior Air Staff Officer SASO (Senior Air Staff Officer) of the Air Force in Germany ( RAF Germany ) and in 1977 Director General of the Training Department in the Air Force Staff. As such, he became Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) on June 11, 1977 .

On February 27, 1980, Beavis took over as Major General (Air Vice Marshal) the post of Commandant of the Royal Air Force Staff College Bracknell , succeeding Air Vice Marshal John Curtiss . He remained in this post until he was replaced by Air Vice Marshal David Parry-Evans on April 21, 1981. He then succeeded on April 27, 1981 as Lieutenant General ( Air Marshal ) John Gingell as Commanding General of the Air Support Command ( RAF Support Command ) from and held this position until February 15, 1984, whereupon Air Marshal David Harcourt-Smith took his place. In this use, he was beaten on June 13, 1981 to Knight Commander of the Order of the Bath (KCB) and has since had the suffix "Sir".

Most recently Michael Gordon Beavis became General (Air Chief Marshal) and took over on March 14, 1984 from Air Chief Marshal John Gingell as Deputy Commander in Chief of the Allied Forces of NATO in Central Europe AFCENT ( Allied Forces Central Europe ) . He held this position until he was replaced by Air Chief Marshal Joseph Gilbert on September 19, 1986. He himself then retired from active military service and retired.

His marriage to Joy Marion Jones in 1949 resulted in a daughter and a son.
