Michael E. Habicht

Michael E. Habicht (* 1974 ) is a Swiss Egyptologist . He works as a scientist at the Institute for Evolutionary Medicine at the University of Zurich and is also a lecturer at Flinders University in Adelaide , Australia .

Life

After obtaining his Matura in Zurich , Habicht studied classical archeology , Egyptology and prehistory and early history at the universities in Zurich and Basel and graduated in 2006 with a Magister Artium . In 2018 he completed his PhD in bioarchaeology in Australia and has been a Senior Research Fellow at Flinders University since 2019. He specialized in the New Kingdom , the royal tombs in the Valley of the Kings and the "underworld books" such as the Duat , as well as the reigns of the ancient Egyptian kings Akhenaten and Tutankhamun at that time. He is currently a member of Frank Rühli's team in the Paleopathology and Mummy Studies Group project and has published the results of the investigations together with other Egyptologists. His main research area in this study is the analysis of organic material in ancient Egyptian canopic jars in order to infer the state of health of royal family members and that of the ancient Egyptian population. Various studies deal with the identification or biology of the ancient Egyptians (body size, diseases).
