Michael Kleinjohann

Michael Kleinjohann (born May 30, 1959 in Cologne ) is a German media manager , journalist and media and communication scientist. He is Professor of Marketing & Communications Management at the International School of Management .

Professional career

Kleinjohann attended the Friedrich-Wilhelm-Gymnasium in Trier and studied communication science and journalism , history and art history at the Westfälische-Wilhelms-Universität in Münster from 1980 to 1986 and received his doctorate in 1986 on the market for sports magazines in Germany.

As a journalist and photographer he worked from 1979 to 1987 for the surf magazine as a travel journalist and for the Südwestfunk as a radio reporter.

He began his career in media management in 1987 as an advertising manager, property manager and publishing manager at Motor-Presse Stuttgart and was responsible a. a. for the magazines promobil , Caravaning, Motor Klassik and MODELL Fahrzeug. Other positions in media management were managing director of the city magazine group Prinz (Hamburg), member of the management of the Milchstraße publishing group (including TV Spielfilm , Cinema , 2000–2007) and managing director of the travel guide publishing house Travel House Media (including Polyglott, Merian ).

He gained international management experience as managing director of Heinrich Bauer Verlag in Warsaw (1995–1998), as Chief Executive Officer of Motor-Presse Schweiz AG in Zurich (2010–2014) as well as through consulting mandates and the like. a. in France, Croatia and Hungary.

He publishes special-interest websites (including sports magazines) and international and regional tourism portals (including Cadzand , Breskens and Nieuwvliet ), and his agency advises companies on digital marketing and branding .

academic career

Kleinjohann taught as a lecturer at the Technical University of Munich , in Hamburg, at the Mittweida University , the Fresenius University and at the BiTS. From 2008 to 2011 he was professor for media management and course director at Macromedia University in Hamburg, specializing in international media economics , media research , media economics and journalism .

Since March 2017 he has been teaching and researching at the International School of Management in Hamburg as a professor for Marketing & Communications Management with a focus on corporate communication , public relations , corporate identity , advertising , social media and online marketing as well as international sports management .
