Michael Kraus (swimmer)

Michael Kraus (born September 26, 1955 in Gladbeck ) is a former German swimmer and sports official .

Kraus made his breakthrough into the world class at the World Swimming Championships in 1975 . He finished sixth on the 200-meter butterfly course and won the silver medal in the 4 × 100-meter individual relay. A year later he won the bronze medal in the German 4 × 100 meter relay at the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal after finishing fifth on the 200 meter course. At the European Championships in 1977 he was European champion over 200 meters butterfly. Together with Klaus Steinbach , Gerald Mörken and Peter Nocke , he also won the tier relay. In the following year at the swimming world championships in 1978 , Kraus won silver with the individual layer relay. From 1974 to 1980 he won the title of the 200-meter butterfly distance at seven consecutive German swimming championships .

In addition to the individual titles at the German Championships, he was successful with the SG Gladbeck club relay. The German championship title in the 4 × 200-meter freestyle stood out in German record time in 1981. With his fellow squadrons Dirk Korthals , Frank Wennmann and Volker Friedrich , he won unchallenged before Michael Groß's season.

Until 2008, the doctor of medicine worked for several years as Vice President of Competitive Sports of the German Triathlon Union (DTU).

Michael Kraus is married to the former Dutch swimmer Annelies Maas .
