Michael Liniger (born November 29, 1979 in Muri near Bern ) is a former Swiss ice hockey player and current coach who has been the head coach of the GCK Lions again since 2019 .
Career
Michael Liniger went through all of the junior departments at the SCL Tigers . He then moved to EHC Biel in the National League B for one season . He had a good season with 17 goals and 24 assists . As a result, the HC Ambrì-Piotta became aware of him and committed him to the 2001/02 season . Liniger played in Ambrì for four years before moving back to the Emmental for the SCL Tigers. Here he became an important team support and team captain . On the 2007/08 season he was signed by the Kloten Flyers . Here he usually formed a successful storm with Marcel Jenni and Roman Wick before the latter left the team.
In 2016, Liniger switched to the GCK Lions , the ZSC Lions farm team , to work as a trainer in the youth field alongside his playing activities. For the 2017/18 season he was promoted to player-coach with the GCK Lions and in December 2017 even to the club's head coach. In the play-offs of 2018 he was promoted to assistant coach of the ZSC Lions and became Swiss champions with the team at the end of the season. For the following season he moved back to the GCK assistant coach position behind Leo Schumacher before he became Arno Del Curto's assistant coach at the ZSC Lions in January 2019 .
For the 2019/20 season he was again head coach of the GCK Lions.
