Michail Borissowitsch Ignatjew ( Russian Михаил Борисович Игнатьев ; born May 7, 1985 in Leningrad ) is a former Russian cyclist who competed in races on track and road cycling .
Athletic career
In his first years in international cycling, Mikhail Ignatiev was very successful on the track and on the road. In 2002 and 2003 he was four times junior world champion and three times European champion (juniors and U23) on the track and twice junior world champion on the road. In 2002, he became Junior World Champion in the individual time trial in Zolder, Belgium, and defended this title the following year. In 2004 he had his greatest success to date: at the Olympic Games in Athens , when he was 19, he relegated reigning Olympic champions Joan Llaneras and Guido Fulst to their places in the points run on the track .
From 2004 Ignatjew for Lokomotiv and from 2006 mainly competed in road races. At the 2005 road cycling world championships in Madrid , he was time trial champion in the U23 class. Between 2006 and 2008 Ignatjew drove for the Russian Continental Team Team Tinkoff Credit Systems . In his first year there he won the Clásica Memorial Txuma and two stages as well as the overall ranking at the Volta a Lleida . In autumn 2007 he became U23 time trial runner- up in Salzburg . In the same year he had other successes, such as stage wins in the Mediterranean Tour , the Burgos Tour , the Rothaus Regio Tour and the prologue success at the Ster Elektrotoer . He also won the Trofeo Laigueglia . In 2010 he became the Russian champion in the individual time trial and won a stage from Tirreno-Adriatico . , with his team he won the team time trial of the Settimana Internazionale in 2013 .
Ignatiev started ten times in major country tours . He drove them all to the end, but could never place in the top hundred.
Honors
Ignatiew was honored with the induction into the Hall of Fame of the European cycling association Union Européenne de Cyclisme .
