Mieczysław Apolinary Horbowski

Mieczysław Apolinary Horbowski (born July 23, 1849 in Doleck near Nowy Kawęczyn in what was then Congress Poland ; † January 26, 1937 in Vienna ) was a Polish baritone and vocal teacher .

Life

Horbowski studied in Warsaw with Francesco Ciaffei , in Florence with Luigi Vannuccini , in Milan with Gaetano Nava and Francesco Lamperti and in Paris with Gustave-Hippolyte Roger . In 1872 he made his debut in Italy under the pseudonym Francesco Ranieri and in 1873 in Warsaw with Il barbiere di Siviglia . He then sang a lot in the theaters of Warsaw, Cracow , Posen , Lemberg and also in the Teatro alla Scala in Milan . He focused on the lyrical roles in operas by Stanisław Moniuszko , Charles Gounod , Giacomo Meyerbeer , Gaetano Donizetti , Giuseppe Verdi and Friedrich von Flotow .

In 1886 Horbowski took over the singing class at the Warsaw Music Institute , which has now grown to 29 students. In 1895 he moved to the Moscow Conservatory and in 1906 to the Krakow Music Academy . From 1912 he taught at the kk academy for music and performing arts .

Horbowski published essays in Echo Muzyczne i Teatralne (1884) and in Słowo and edited collections of Italian vocal music from the 18th century. He wrote a two-volume textbook on the theory and practice of singing. He also composed the song Dziewczę z buzią jak malina (the girl with lips like raspberries).
